About the artist
Alejandra Montaño is a Mexican-American artist based in Tucson, Arizona and the founder of Alejandra Arte. She grew up in Barrio Viejo, where every house is a different color and art was never separate from everyday life. Both of her parents were painters, and from an early age she was surrounded by studios, sketchbooks, and constant creativity. Self-taught, her work developed intuitively—guided more by instinct than formal training. Her paintings are known for bold color, expressive figures, and the large, soulful eyes that appear throughout her work. Drawing from Mexican culture and desert life, her subjects often include Virgins, saints, musicians, animals, and Día de los Muertos imagery—blending the sacred and the playful in a way that feels both personal and familiar. Her work has been collected across the United States, Mexico, and internationally, with collectors in England, Japan, and Korea. She has also created official artwork for the Tucson International Mariachi Conference and designed album covers for musicians. For Alejandra, painting was never really a choice—it’s something she returned to. Something that was always there waiting. In many ways, it feels like what she was meant to carry forward.
